چکیده

Honeybee, Apis mellifera, is one of the most important pollinators in the world. Since pesticides have been used widely, honeybees are unavoidable at risk exposing to various contaminated sources of residual pesticides while they are engaging foraging activities in collecting nectar and pollens. The effects of various levels of sub-lethal dosages of insecticides on the biology, development and foraging activities of honeybee would not be direct reflected by the LD50 of the acute toxicity of insecticides. In this paper, we review available information and our preliminary studies of some commonly used insecticides, especially pyriproxyfen and imidacloprid affect the development, foraging behavior and colony conditions of honeybee under sub-lethal dosages.

RFID Tracking of Sublethal Effects of Two Neonicotinoid Insecticides on the Foraging Behavior of Apis mellifera

The development of insecticides requires valid risk assessment procedures to avoid causing harm to beneficial insects and especially to pollinators such as the honeybee Apis mellifera. In addition to testing according to current guidelines designed to detect bee mortality, tests are needed to determine possible sublethal effects interfering with the animal's vitality and behavioral performance....

Neonicotinoid pesticides can reduce honeybee colony genetic diversity

Neonicotinoid insecticides can cause a variety of adverse sub-lethal effects in bees. In social species such as the honeybee, Apis mellifera, queens are essential for reproduction and colony functioning. Therefore, any negative effect of these agricultural chemicals on the mating success of queens may have serious consequences for the fitness of the entire colony. Queens were exposed to the com...

The effects of sub-chronic administration of sub-lethal doses of amitraz/xylene on selected reproductive parameters of male Wistar rats

This study investigated the effects of sub-chronic administration of sub-lethal doses of amitraz on some testicular parameters of Albino rats. Twenty-four adult male Albino rats (100 ± 10 g) randomly assigned into four groups were used for the study. Groups A, B and C received 10.0, 2.0 and 0.4 mg/kg amitraz in 10 ml/kg water while group D received equivalent volume of water orally and daily fo...

Evaluation of the Extracts From Rhizomes of Polygonum bistorta for the Median Lethal Dosages in Swiss Albino Mice

Background: Polygonum bistorta has been used as a remedy for jaundice, smallpox, pimples, measles, cholera, diarrhoea, dysentery, expelling worms, insect stings and snakebites. In this study, the crude extract from P. bistorta and two fractions viz. hexane and chloroform obtained from the crude extract were studied for their median lethal dosages (LD50) in Swiss albino mice. Methods: Powdered ...

Effects of sub-lethal concentrations of synthetic insecticides and Callitris glaucophylla extracts on the development of Aedes aegypti.

Synthetic and botanical insecticides can have a profound effect on the developmental period, growth, adult emergence, fecundity, fertility, and egg hatch, resulting in effective control at sub-lethal concentrations. This paper investigated sub-lethal concentrations of fenitrothion, lambda-cyhalothrin, and Callitris glaucophylla Joy Thomps. & L.P. Johnson (Cupressaceae) extract to characterize t...
